“Magic is the right hand of the Empire. All others wield it at their peril.”
Founded by the First Emperor of Midgard, Augustus Baelish II, the Order of the Magi exists to control, educate, and elevate magic within the Holy Empire. Its dual mandate:
Train and license capable spellcasters under Imperial oversight
Hunt down Heretics—rogue mages who threaten the fabric of lawful society
All legal magic-users must carry an officially sanctioned license showing their rank. Those who operate without one are declared Heretics and are hunted by the Templars, the Order's militant arm.
Ranks of the Magi
The Emperor
Supreme ruler of Midgard and the divine patron of all sanctioned magical arts.
Grand Magus
Member of the Inner Circle. Oversees all magical doctrine across the empire. Votes on magical law and license standards.
Magus
Headmaster of a single college or temple. Holds near-total authority over their institution.
Magistratus
Master archivist and spellkeeper. Has full access to their college’s reliquary and classified magics.
Medicum
Senior mage who may teach Acolytes and perform mid-level magic without supervision.
Acolyte
Apprentice mage undergoing training. Must be supervised during all spellwork.
Neophyte
An untrained individual with raw magical talent. Must register or be detained.
Heretic
Any practitioner of magic operating without sanction. Subject to immediate capture or elimination.
The Templars are the holy blade of the Empire. Trained at the Temple of Agonir, they blend divine power and anti-magic warfare to enforce mage law, guard reliquaries, and eliminate heretical threats.
Ranks
Templar Grand Officer
Commander of an entire Templar regiment. Reports to the Grand Magus directly.
Templar Commander
Leads a Templar squad. Often stationed with a college or on patrol in Heretic-prone regions.
Templar Knight
Fully ordained Templar, equipped with anti-magic gear and relics.
Templar Squire
Knight-in-training under a commander or veteran knight’s supervision.
The Scribes are sacred historians and stewards of forgotten lore. Bound by oath to preserve culture and magical knowledge, they accompany Magi and Templars alike in uncovering ancient relics and documenting history.
Most Scribes are drawn from Magi ranks (Acolyte, Medicum, Magistratus, or Magus)
Forbidden from combat roles, but granted access to sensitive records and field operations
