Founded by the enigmatic mage Vitori just before the Cataclysm, the Order of the Blue Rose is a sanctuary for arcane scholars, exiles, and magical revolutionaries. They reject magical orthodoxy, embracing even forbidden or unstable forms of magic. Where others see danger, the Blue Rose sees potential.
The Order operates from hidden enclaves across the multiverse, defending the right to explore magic without limitation. Their influence extends subtly but deeply, especially in the realms between worlds.
Multiversal Impact:
In secret experiments, certain members of the Order initiated a fusion between Arcainia and the modern world, disguising the magical connection through the interface of a video game. This UI acts as a magical lens, helping travelers from Earth understand and survive the laws of Arcainia.
But not all within the Order agreed on the scope of their mission. A radical splinter group, driven by prophecy or madness, unleashed the Black Soul Gem, permanently rending the veil between realms. This catastrophic event—known as the Planemeld—allowed magic to bleed into Earth... and with it, demons.
The Planemeld sparked a worldwide Blight, shattering the illusion of a mundane Earth and dragging it into the tangled war of magic, myth, and monstrous ambition.
"From petals of defiance, bloom forbidden truths."
Vitori is an elf mage who became well known for his study of the mysterious Sleeping Realms. During the First Blight, he aided the Alliance in its formation and battles against the demons from the Field of Nightmares.
Vitori could prolong his natural life by drawing on the mana from the Sleeping Realms, much like a lich, but without a phylactery. He no longer needed food, but had to spend a significant amount of time regularly in the Sleeping Realms, which meant he always faced the dangers of being possessed by a demon.
Before the Second Blight, Vitori helped found the Order of the Blue Rose, an organization of mages who sought freedom to study and practice all forms of magic, even those that had been outlawed. Mages who practiced illegal magic became known as Heretics and were hunted down by Templars.
Wielding a staff adorned with mana crystals, Vitori is a master of evocation magic. He bends the power of the elements, such as fire, lightning, and ice, to his will.
Even as a boy, Vitori always felt like an outcast among his fellow elves. He was orphaned at a young age, soon after the Queen of Fey was assassinated. It’s possible that one or both of his parents were once in the queen’s court, but he doesn’t know who they were. Though he considers other members of the Order of the Blue Rose as colleagues, he struggles to make any real friends.
Using pure mana to sustain himself, Vitori has lived for hundreds of years longer than any other elf. Unlike a lich, however, his soul was not removed and put into an object. Once his body is destroyed, there will be no coming back without the aid of extremely powerful magic.
Yet even immortality has its toll. Over centuries of siphoning mana from the Sleeping Realms, Vitori's body has begun to rebel. Arcanium crystals—raw, volatile expressions of unspent arcane energy—have begun to form across his skin in fractal patches. At first, they were beautiful, glowing with soft blues and silvers, like frost-catching starlight. But they grew.
Without a regular cleansing ritual—one both painful and draining—these crystals would overtake him, encasing his limbs, chest, and even face until he became a living statue of his own making. The ritual, ancient and secret, leaves him weakened for days, unable to channel his full strength until his body adjusts.
He does not speak of the pain. But those who know where to look can see the crystal scars beneath the folds of his robes, and understand why the Dreamwalker always walks with just a trace of weariness in his eyes.
