Arcanium, also known as mana crystals, are crystals that form naturally in places with a high concentration of magical energy. Normally, they are blue. They can be ingested, causing physical growth and aggressive behavior. Because they can be more dangerous in higher quantities, possession and use of them may require a Mage license, as well as specific enchanting permits, as they are often used to make/enhance magic items. They may vary slightly in hue and magical effects depending on which elemental magics were more present in the area where they grew. Magic items can still be made without any form of Arcanium, but are usually less powerful.

On rare occasions, Arcanium crystals may grow near where powerful mages spend most of their time, or even on their bodies. This is slightly more common in long-living races such as ancient dragons.
Soul Gems are Arcanium crystals that hold souls, causing them to turn purple. They are mostly used by devils and illegal mages (heretics) and can also be used in rituals or to make powerful magic items.
Delirium is a much more dangerous version of the natural blue, causing hallucinations and delusions even just from close proximity, worsening over time. They are created by corrupting regular Arcanium with blood magic, often involving ritualistic sacrifice. They also corrupt other Arcanium that they touch, spreading rapidly. Depending on the blood used to corrupt them, magic items made with them may have specific powers related to that species and/or individual bloodline.
When a soul gem is corrupted by blood magic in a similar method to Delirium, the result is a Black Soul Gem, the rarest, most powerful, and most dangerous type of Arcanium. These gems can hold multiple souls and are used to perform rituals that can open permanent portals between realms, achieve immortality through lichdom, or even create god-slaying weapons.
