Vitori the Dreamwalker is among the oldest living mages in Arcainia, a wandering scholar whose name has appeared at the turning points of history for thousands of years. Though many know him for his mastery of elemental magic, those who have encountered him remember something else entirely: an uncanny ability to appear exactly when he is needed, only to vanish once his guidance is complete.
His fascination with the mysterious Veilstream began in childhood and eventually became a lifelong pursuit. While others viewed the Veilstream as little more than a celestial wonder, Vitori believed it to be the lifeblood of creation itself—a bridge connecting the mortal world to souls, dreams, and the Cosmic Mana Pool beyond. His centuries of research have made him one of the foremost authorities on its mysteries, though even he admits there is far more left to discover than he will ever understand
During the First Blight, Vitori helped unite the races of Arcainia, lending his knowledge to the newly formed Alliance as they battled the demonic armies pouring forth from The Maw. Although never a king or general, his counsel influenced countless leaders, earning him quiet respect across nearly every nation.
Generations later, before the Second Blight, Vitori became one of the founders of the Order of the Blue Rose, an organization dedicated to preserving magical knowledge and defending the freedom to study every school of magic—even those forbidden by law. As fear of magic spread, practitioners of outlawed arts became known as Heretics and were relentlessly hunted by Templar orders. While Vitori never encouraged reckless experimentation, he believed that ignorance was far more dangerous than knowledge.
Armed with a staff crowned by brilliant Arcainium crystals, Vitori commands extraordinary mastery over evocation magic. Fire, lightning, ice, and raw arcane energy answer his call with remarkable precision. Yet despite his immense power, he is rarely the first to draw his weapon, preferring wisdom, diplomacy, and careful observation over displays of force.
Even as a child, however, Vitori felt like an outsider among his fellow Aelinthir. He was orphaned shortly after the assassination of the last High Queen of Fey and raised by attendants who rarely spoke of the past. The few surviving records suggest that one or both of his parents once served within the Queen's court, but their names have long since vanished from history. Whether those records were simply lost to time or deliberately erased remains unknown. Though Vitori searched for answers throughout much of his long life, even he has accepted that some mysteries refuse to reveal themselves.
Though respected throughout Arcainia, Vitori has never truly escaped his loneliness. He considers the members of the Order of the Blue Rose trusted colleagues and allies, yet few would call him a close friend. Centuries of watching civilizations rise and fall have taught him that immortality often carries the quiet burden of distance.
While many remember Vitori as a legendary mage, few understand why history remembers him as the Dreamwalker.
Throughout his centuries of study, Vitori became one of the very few individuals capable of safely traversing the Dreaming Realm, a plane where mortal dreams intertwine with memory, emotion, prophecy, and nightmare. Most mages who remain within its shifting landscape for too long eventually lose themselves. Some awaken broken by madness. Others become possessed by the nightmares lurking beneath sleeping minds, never fully returning to themselves.
Vitori is different. He walks the Dreaming Realm with an ease that has baffled scholars for generations. Nightmares that eagerly prey upon other dreamwalkers often hesitate in his presence, allowing him to venture deeper than nearly any living soul. There he guides lost dreamers back to waking life, confronts manifestations of fear before they consume their victims, and seeks fragments of forgotten knowledge scattered throughout the dreams of countless generations.
When questioned about this unusual gift, Vitori simply attributes it to centuries of discipline, meditation, and experience. He believes anyone with sufficient patience could someday accomplish the same. Whether that is truly the reason remains one of the Dreaming Realm's oldest mysteries.
Unlike liches, Vitori never abandoned his soul in pursuit of eternal life. Instead, he sustains his unnaturally long lifespan by carefully drawing pure mana from the Veilstream itself. The process continually restores his aging body, allowing him to live centuries beyond the natural limits of his race without sacrificing his humanity. Should his body finally be destroyed, however, he would perish like any other mortal unless restored through exceptionally powerful resurrection magic.
Yet even this miracle comes at a terrible cost. Over centuries of channeling such immense arcane energy, Vitori's body has slowly begun transforming. Arcainium crystals—raw, volatile manifestations of condensed mana—emerge beneath his skin in intricate, branching patterns. At first they shimmered like frost beneath moonlight, beautiful enough to resemble living gemstones. They never stopped growing.
Without an ancient purification ritual known only to him, the crystals would eventually consume his body entirely, entombing him within his own magic until nothing remained but a motionless statue of living Arcainium. The ritual itself is agonizing, draining both body and spirit, leaving Vitori physically weakened for days while his connection to the Veilstream slowly stabilizes once more.
He speaks little of the pain. Those fortunate enough to earn his trust occasionally glimpse the crystalline scars hidden beneath his robes and understand why the Dreamwalker always carries a quiet weariness behind his calm eyes.
